Q-Are you worried that in 62 plate appearances SS Jean Segura is now batting .194?
Q-No. I am a little worried that I asked myself such a stupid question. Such a small sample size tells us absolutely nothing. If anything I am encouraged by his approach at the plate and in particular how aggressive he is. I also like his hustle which is evident by quite a few infield hits. And do not be concerned that he has only one extra base hit. He is going to be just fine in that regard. If anyting at all I am a little concerned about his defense. I think he will develop in time though.
Q-Name a few bright spots about the 2012 season. This could take a while as their are a ton despite the fact that it has been an awful season in terms of team record. The few I will pick out are as follows.
Ryan Braun has shown no regression at all in production despite the removal of Prince Fielder from the lineup. I mention it as many expected him to, although I was not in that group.
GMDM continues to prove that he gets it. The acquisition of Norichika Aoki at that financial committment is amazing. I love that little dude at the top of the order.
I like that Carlos Gomez has forced the organization to take another look at him as an everyday player. He can frustrate fans no doubt. At this point those situations are rare. It used to be that when he displayed power many would wince as a drought seemed inevitable. That isn’t the case anymore. I think he can hit 25 dongs next season and still flash the gifts of his speed.
Well, that covers a few and I still haven’t mentioned the young pitching or Corey Hart at 1B.
Q-Are you a homer?
A-Probably, but I can be critical at times.
Q-Will you say something negative about the organization right now?
A-I hate when GMDM panics and overpays for players that are the best of bad options. Jeff Suppan and Randy Wolf are the two guys that jump out. They both were overpaid and both cut before the contracts were done. Wolf was much better but still awful.
This is going to lead me back though to saying positive things about the organization. The are now in a position to not have to do that anymore. They have enough options that they do not need to hire the smartest kid in a dumb class.
